Tucker Dupree

Living a typical teenage life, Tucker Dupree actively participated in sports, acquired cooking skills at his first job, learned to drive, and played the piano. On October 18th, 2006, his life took a dramatic turn upon being diagnosed with Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy.

Dupree had the honor of representing Team USA in three Paralympic games in swimming. In the 2012 Games, he secured three medals; Silver in the 100-meter Backstroke, Bronze in the 100-meter Freestyle, and Bronze in the 50-meter Freestyle. Additionally, he won a Bronze in the 100-meter Backstroke at the 2016 Games. Beyond the Paralympics, Dupree has marked his excellence in various championships, including the Long Course Can-Am Swimming Championships in 2007 and the World Championships in 2009. His swimming prowess extends to a range of categories such as freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and medley events, competing in the Paralympic classes S12/SB12/SM12.

His record-breaking performances include setting one World Record, five American records, and 5 Pan-American records that still stand today. Dupree's remarkable achievements have earned him numerous accolades, including the 2007 WSY Andy Craver Determination Award, Tim Stevens Scholarship Award Winner, the 2008 Greater Raleigh Sports Council Courage of Character Award, and the 2011 Roger McCarville Male Athlete of the Year Award.

After an illustrious swimming career, Dupree retired and is currently based out of Chicago, working at BP as the Workplace Colleague Experience Lead for The Americas. Despite his retirement, his relentless drive continues to impact the world, fostering a ‘Limitless Vision’ mindset to further the accessibility movement.
