Ulrike Malmendier

Ulrike Malmendier is the inaugural Hodson Thornber Visiting Fellow and a leader in the fields of corporate and behavioral finance. Her research in those fields focuses on organizations and institutions, contracts, and behavioral economics, as well as on the link between economics and psychology.

Malmendier was awarded the biennial Fischer Black Prize in 2013 by the American Finance Association, presented to a leading finance scholar under 40. In 2011, she was awarded an Initiative on Global Markets Fellowship by the Chicago Booth School of Business. She was an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow between 2010 and 2012. She is currently coeditor of the Journal of Economics Perspectives, and formerly served as associate editor of the Journal of the European Economic Association, the Journal of Financial Intermediation, and the Economic Journal.

In 2006, Malmendier first joined the faculty of the University of California, Berkeley, where she has been professor of economics and professor of finance at the Haas School of Business since 2012. She has previously held permanent and visiting faculty positions at Stanford University, Princeton University, the University of Chicago, the Max Planck Institute (Germany) and Oxford University. She is also a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a research affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research, and a fellow at CESifo.
