Val Whiting

Val Whiting is a former American Basketball League (ABL) and Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) player and Stanford All-American. She has represented USA Basketball on several occasions and in 2006, was named a Top 25 Women's Basketball Player in the history of the NCAA by ESPN magazine.

At Stanford, Whiting was a part of two NCAA championship teams, three Final Fours and four Pac-10 Championships. In addition, she finished at Stanford as the Pac-10 all-time leading scorer and rebounder. Her honors include: two-time National Player of the Year Finalist; two-time All-American; Pac-10 Female Athlete of the Year; and ESPY Award Nominee.

Whiting was recruited by the ABL and selected as a member of the its Inaugural All-Star team. She left the ABL as one of a few players to score 1000 points. She was then drafted by the WNBA team, Detroit Shock, where she was among the league's top rebounders, helping lead her team to their first ever play-off bid.

Whiting, who has a passion for seeing girls empowered through their involvement in sports, was awarded the WNBA Cares Community Assist Award and the Mayoral Award for Distinguished Citizen and Outstanding Service to Youth due to her life-skills program for female athletes. She serves on the National Advisory Board for the Positive Coaching Alliance and has mentored thousands of athletes. She is a Certified Life Skills Instructor as well as a Certified Performance Edge Coach.
