Valerie Morris

Valerie Coleman Morris is an Emmy award-winning journalist who recently declined a new contract with CNN to focus on financial literacy for women, young adults, and people of color. Formerly a Business Anchor for CNN, Morris now writes and narrates "With the Family in Mind," a nationally syndicated radio column airing on CBS Network Radio. She also engages as a popular lecturer on financial literacy, speaking at various institutions, including a series at the University of California Berkeley's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

Throughout her broadcast career, which spans over 35 years, Morris has worked at notable stations including KRON-TV, KGO-TV, WPIX-TV, KCBS Radio, and KCBS-TV. Her journalism work has earned her multiple accolades: three California Emmy awards for breaking news and special reports, and contributions to KCBS Radio’s Peabody Award-winning coverage of the 1989 California earthquake. Additionally, Morris has been honored with the Black Woman of the Year award, The American Women in Radio and Television’s Outstanding Contribution to Broadcasting Award and the Award of Courage from the National Organization for Women, plus two RTNDA Awards.

Morris earned her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from San Jose State University and a Masters in Broadcast Journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where she studied as a New York Times Fellow. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and currently resides in Tucson, Arizona with her husband, Robert L. Morris, Jr.
