Wendel Clark

Wendel Clark, a Canadian former professional ice hockey player, boasts a career that spanned from 1985 to 2000. Equally at home on teams including the Toronto Maple Leafs, Quebec Nordiques, New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, Detroit Red Wings, and Chicago Blackhawks, Clark was first overall in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs. His stint as the captain of the Maple Leafs from 1991 to 1994 cemented his leadership role in the sport. This leadership was further evidenced by his physical play and scoring ability, as he led his team in penalty minutes and goals during his rookie season.

Clark's prowess on the ice was recognized early on, as he was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team and finished third in voting for the Calder Memorial Trophy after his rookie season. This trend continued with a career-high 46 goals in 64 games during the 1993-94 season. The crowning jewel, however, was Clark's inclusion in Canada's gold medal-winning team at the 1985 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. His contributions to the sport were further recognized when he was named to the North American All-Star team while with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Now, Wendel Clark continues to contribute to the sport he loves, currently serving as a community ambassador and public relations representative for the Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Club. His #17 jersey was retired by the Toronto Maple Leafs, a tribute to his significant contributions to the team. In 2011, Clark was inducted into the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, a testament to his enduring legacy. Off the ice, Clark has ventured into business, owning Wendel Clark's Classic Grill and Sports Lounge, with locations in Saskatoon, Brampton, Oshawa, and Burlington. His presence also graces the Leafs' Legends Row at the Air Canada Centre, where statues of him were added as part of the Maple Leafs' Centennial Anniversary.
