William MacAskill
William MacAskill Biography
William MacAskill is a Scottish philosopher and co-founder of the effective altruism movement. He is currently a research fellow in philosophy at Emmanuel College, Cambridge and, as of August 2015, a professor in philosophy at Lincoln College, Oxford. MacAskill has founded two nonprofit organizations: 80,000 Hours and Giving What We Can. Combined, the nonprofits have raised over $400 million in lifetime pledged donations to charity. In 2014, MacAskill was a notable critic of the ice bucket challenge.
In 2015, it was announced Penguin would publish MacAskill's first book, Doing Good Better, based on the principles of effective altruism.
