Zachary B. Gerbarg

Dr. Gerbarg, who heads his own medical management company, Gerbarg & Associates. He also lends his expertise to Managed Care Resources, Inc..

Zach has more than ten years of medical management experience in managed health care, including holding senior level positions responsible for strategic planning, operations, staff development, medical practice management, medical delivery and medical policy. He has been responsible for budgets in excess of $150 million:

For more than four years he served as the chief operating officer for a 240-physician multi-specialty group practice, with responsibility for over 1600 employees and 180,000 managed care members. For two years he was chief medical officer and senior vice president for a 140,000 member mixed model HMO. He has had direct responsibility in a variety of medical management functions, including utilization management, quality improvement, physician recruitment, worker's compensation, wellness services, urgent care centers, out-patient surgery, pharmacy, home health/hospice, mental health and round the clock nurse triage.

His experience includes the implementation of Medicare risk contracts, working with managed Medicaid programs and populations, and participating in sales and marketing for managed care organizations on both a local and national basis. He has also served as director on numerous boards of managed care and medical organizations.

Zach is a nationally recognized speaker who has designed and delivered educational programs on leadership, physician quality improvement and managed care for physician executives, practicing physicians, health care administrators, and other health care professionals. In 1995 he was recognized as the Teacher of the Year in the Health Care Administration Program at Washington University in St. Louis, where he teaches a graduate course in managed health care. He has organized programs that have won national recognition for improvements in childhood immunization and the care of patients with asthma. He also serves as a faculty member for the American College of Physician Executives.

A graduate of Albany Medical College, Zach is board certified in internal medicine. He spent two years as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at Yale University, where he focused on clinical epidemiology and health services delivery. He had extensive experience as a practicing physician before becoming involved in medical management and consulting.
