As you read this letter you will see the importance of helping us change the lives of children, one child at a time. In these challenging economic times, it is the less fortunate among us that are hardest hit. This is why the Lifedriven Foundation is fighting even harder for kids who are economically, emotionally, and physically challenged by an unwanted and unexpected enemy-Cancer.
The Lifedriven Foundation is a cancer support organization that helps connect kids to life-changing experiences. Lifedriven Foundation exists to accomplish one goal - to provide education and inspiration to children battling cancer through our Lifedriven Health & Wellness Program.
I know how important inspiration is to a child. I was diagnosed with Colon Cancer on March 31, 2005, where eighteen inches of my colon was removed. It was during my cancer treatment at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where I saw kids suffering from cancer, that I had the vision to start Lifedriven Foundation, to encourage children who are fighting for their lives.
So, after months of radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery, and then more chemotherapy, I became one of the fortunate ones, a cancer survivor. In 2006, I started the Lifedriven Foundation. Our mission is to provide life-changing solutions to the socio-economic problem of cancer, by enhancing the lives and circumstances of children in disadvantaged communities battling cancer.
Our Health & Wellness Program provides inspiration and education to children and families who are impacted by cancer. We start off taking them on an inspirational trip to the happiest place on earth-Disneyland so that children battling cancer and their families can believe that miracles do come true. The Program targets disadvantaged children with cancer and their families in Southern California. Families receive education on healthy nutritional living practices teaching them the importance of keeping their doctor's appointments, taking their medications, maintaining a daily, healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and understanding the benefits of exercise. Families are also given Cash Gift Cards to assist them with the purchase of nutritional healthy food and to offset the expense of prescription medications and Doctor's Visits.
Lifedriven Health & Wellness Program addresses some of the challenges and stresses families face. Often times cancer leaves the family with feelings of concern about what the future holds, because the reality is that some have loss jobs, and sometimes even their cars to cancer, so the impact of receiving Lifedriven Care Bags through our partnership with Wal-Mart's Community Giving Program helps us strengthen the community.
Each family remains in the Program for one year during which time the relationship that develops becomes a community of support, where families understand, their questions are answered, and no concern is too small. Every aspect of the Program is designed to educate and give hope and strength to families resulting in their overall improved health and well-being.
Through our grassroots fundraising program we were profiled on The Doctor's TV Show, and highlighted in Prevention Magazine as an ideal "Picture of Health", and also appeared on KCAL TV 9 News. This exposure is unique and positive and helps raise awareness and support for the Lifedriven Health & Wellness Program.
The overarching goals of the Program are to improve the health and recovery process of children battling cancer through healthy living education, exercise and support, and to compel children to “Be Lifedriven”, that is, going on to make their unique difference in the many underserved communities of Los Angeles.
