Designer, carpenter and Emmy award-winning TV host, Ty Pennington has been an American media staple for more than 20 years. Across his creative endeavors he is fueled by his love of bringing joy to others. Pennington lives in Savannah, GA with his wife, Kellee and their rescue dogs, Dory & Phoebe.
His rise to prominence began with his role as carpenter on the TLC home improvement reality show "Trading Spaces," and continued when he hosted the ABC reality series "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," where he won two Primetime Emmy Awards. A show that transformed the lives of thousands, and inspired millions more around the world. Following that, Pennington focused on numerous other projects, including host of ABC's talk show "The Revolution," TNT's "On the Menu" opposite Emeril Lagasse, The Food Network's "American Diner Revival," and several seasons of "Small Business Revolution," which is available for streaming on Hulu and Prime. On the international market, "Inside the Box with Ty Pennington" aired on Canada’s W Network. As part of his ongoing relationship with Great Britain’s UKTV Home, his series Homes for the Brave, and the follow up, Ty’s "Great British Adventure," aired with him serving as Executive Producer. Today you’ll find him starring in several different HGTV shows including fan favorite, "Battle on the Beach," and as host of the network’s highest rated mega series, "Rock the Block."
A self-described "Jack-of-all-trades", Pennington learned woodworking early in life and began teaching himself about carpentry and home improvement. Despite his skills in carpentry, Pennington initially decided that carpentry wasn't something he wanted to do professionally, noting his main interests were in becoming an artist, specializing in Graphic Design. This passion for all things design has led to the creation of several different projects such as: Ty Pennington Impressions with Westminster Fabrics, a partnership with industry leader Howard Miller, the Ty Pennington Style line for Sears, and a line of flooring for Lumber Liquidators. Currently you’ll find him restoring his 1800s home in Savannah, Georgia and working on his furniture & decor collection with At Home.
Pennington has written three books on his quest to inspire others. In his latest, Life to the Extreme (Zondervan 2019), he shares his remarkable life story. Good Design Can Change Your Life (Simon & Schuster 2008) is an intimate look at his design inspirations with décor advice and tips. It followed his New York Times Best Seller "Ty’s Tricks" (Hyperion 2003). This book is part reference, and part behind-the-scenes as Pennington gives readers a sneak peek at some of the projects he's done in his own home and shows how they can be recreated.
Deemed “America’s Favorite Carpenter” and recognized as a leader in the field of volunteerism, Pennington has traveled the world for his passion projects. These include: working with Habitat for Humanity, building homes in Africa with Abod, serving as ambassador for the Sears American Dream campaign, saving our coral reefs with the help of his friend Dr. Dave at Plant a Million Corals, and more.
