Dr. Lisa M. Masterson is an Emmy-nominated co-host of the award-winning talk show The Doctors. She is a board-certified specialist in obstetrics, gynecology, infertility, adolescent gynecology and family planning and is on staff at Los Angeles Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica and UCLA. She is a fellow of the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and maintains a private practice in Santa Monica. She is also a founder and medical director of the Ocean Oasis Medical Spa in Santa Monica, which offers spa treatments, and exercise and nutrition programs tailored specifically to each phase of a woman's life.
Through her charity, Maternal Fetal Care International (MFCI), Dr. Masterson travels to poor regions around the world to help save the lives of pregnant women and improve the standards of their healthcare. She founded the first OB/GYN residency program in sub-Saharan Africa as well as birthing clinics in Kenya and India. Through her work with MFCI in tackling the United Nations Millennium Development Goal to accelerate progress in women's and children's health, she addressed the United Nations Foundations Social Good Summit in New York in September 2010. In addition, Dr. Masterson is a Champion for the UN Foundations Girl Up program, which inspires American teenage girls to help raise money to support health and educational programs that will improve the lives of teenage girls in impoverished areas around the world.
A proponent of education, Dr. Masterson hosts seminars on adolescent sexuality for teens and parents and wrote Go Figure, a workbook for young girls detailing the changes throughout their bodies. Dr. Masterson has also captured her journey of becoming a doctor in her powerful memoir, Paper Dollhouse. She has appeared on programs including The Oprah Winfrey Show, Today, Good Morning America, Dr. Phil and Rachael Ray, Discovery Health Channel's Strictly Dr. Drew and Lifetime's What Should You Do? as well as on CNN.
Dr. Masterson has been awarded with a Red Cross Humanitarian Award and the March of Dimes Golden Rattle Award recognizing her advocacy work in improving the health of infants and mothers around the world. Her groundbreaking research has been published in the Green Journal and the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Masterson attended The Bishops School in La Jolla, California; graduated with honors from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, one of the Seven Sisters colleges; and attended the University of Southern California Medical School, graduating with high honors. She currently lives in Southern California with her son. In her spare time, Dr. Masterson enjoys surfing and learning French.
The Doctors won the 2010 Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show/Informative and has been nominated in the category every year since its inception in 2008. In addition, Dr. Masterson and her co-hosts on The Doctors received consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Talk Show Host in 2011 and 2012.
