With over 25 years in the beauty industry, Monica Green is on a mission to enhance business opportunities through mentorship, and providing educational opportunities to both licensed and aspiring cosmetologists, salon owners, salon managers, and other beauty professionals to help them achieve their highest level of industry and personal growth and success. Through Green’s work as a speaker, consultant, and educator, she aims to help make dreams into reality for industry professionals looking to increase profits, build businesses, and get their messages out.
While working behind the chair, as a licensed managerial cosmetologist and instructor, Green travelled nationally as a professional stylist and beauty advisor for various entertainers, and as a platform artist for Soft Sheen, Lustra Silk, and Kizure.
A dynamic and business savvy executive, Green brings skills from her years of experience working as a C-level executive in the corporate, non-profit, medical construction, and communications industries to help shape the businesses she owns, operates, or consults. She is gifted in salon management, finance and budget management, strategic planning, business plan development, and program development, which has helped her successfully launch and manage, to date, three (3) profitable businesses, including two salons. Her first salon, Unity Styling Studio, in Cleveland, was averaging over $250,000 in annual sales before she sold it in 1997. Her resume of additional financial achievements includes personally increasing annual sales growth in the million dollar range, successfully attaining over $1.5 million in non-profit funding, securing thousands of dollars in sponsorships, and managing multi-million dollar budgets and portfolios.
For Green, it’s important to give back to the community, making it a priority in how she does business. She has spearheaded a series of industry and community-oriented service projects such as celebration of the first ever Madam C.J. Walker Day, to unify and mobilize her local beauty industry, and through which disadvantaged groups such as domestic violence survivors received free makeovers, and the U.G.L.Y. Campaign for Beauty, purposed to motivate and encourage women to feel beautiful inside and out by altering the connotation of what it means to feel ‘ugly’, and awarding free makeovers to one deserving woman every month for a year.
Green is known for having a knack for seeing solid opportunities, knowing when and how to make connections, building relationships, and motivating others. A respected business woman and industry advocate, Green has done a variety of print and television interviews, whether through being featured, or being called on for quotes as a local industry resource for her education and insightfulness. She is a sought-after presenter because of her customized approach to presenting information that is relevant, relatable, and reachable to everyone from newbies and novices, to industry veterans.
Green obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Central State University and her Master’s of Business Administration degree from Myers University. She is a native Clevelander, where she resides with her husband Darryl Green and their beautiful daughter, Alexandria, age four.
Green is a fervent believer in continuous education and works as a student advisor and adjunct professor, teaching post-grad courses in sale and marketing. Her Building Wealth Beyond the Chair instructional series includes CDs, classes, and educational workshops on public relations, marketing, publicity, advertising, entrepreneurship, and sales strategies for the beauty industry.
