Dr. Jill Goldenziel is a professor of Law, Leadership, and International Security and a public speaker, consultant, and arbitrator. At Marine Corps University-Command and Staff College, she teaches International Law, the Law of War, and National Security to mid-career U.S. and foreign military officers studying for a Master’s in Military Studies. She is also an Affiliated Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania’s Fox Leadership International program and Penn’s Partnership for Effective Public Administration and Leadership Ethics. She is a Forbes.com contributor on National Security. She has spoken at the United Nations and dozens of events throughout the world.
Dr. Goldenziel’s award-winning scholarship focuses on international law, U.S. and comparative constitutional law, human rights, refugees and migration, lawfare, information warfare, and law and religion. She is a specialist in the law and politics of the Middle East. She is working on a book on how politicization of refugee crises threatens national security, an article on civil-military relations, essays and a TEDx talk on leadership, and several projects on the use of law as a weapon of war.
Dr. Goldenziel is in the top 10 percent of most-downloaded authors on the Social Science Research Network, making her one of the most widely-read social scientists in the world. Her award-winning work has appeared in the Cornell Law Review, the American Journal of International Law, the American Journal of Comparative Law, the Virginia Journal of International Law, the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law, and the Arizona State Law Journal, among other scholarly journals. She has briefed United Nations officials, world parliamentarians, and senior military leaders on her research.
Dr. Goldenziel is also regularly quoted and cited in publications such as The Washington Post, the International Business Times, The Atlantic, The Boston Globe, and The New Yorker.com. She has published pieces in The Washington Post, the L.A. Times, The Huffington Post, and The National Interest, and she has been a commentator on NPR, Public Radio International, and in other media. She is a popular speaker and consultant on international law, international security, foreign policy, refugees, migration, Middle East politics, and leadership.
Since 2016, Dr. Goldenziel has participated in High-Level Meetings related to the UN Global Compact for Migration and its implementation, including speaking alongside world leaders before 164 UN Member-States at the Intergovernmental Conference to adopt the Global Compact in Marrakech, speaking at the 2018 Inter-Parliamentary Union/UN Annual Inter-Parliamentary Hearings, and submitting draft language for the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants and the Global Compact for Migration.
Dr. Goldenziel holds a Ph.D. and an A.M. in Government from Harvard University, a J.D. from the New York University School of Law, and an A.B. from Princeton University. She was previously a Climenko Fellow and Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School, a Visiting Assistant Professor of Law at the Boston University School of Law, a Lecturer on Government and Social Studies at Harvard College, and a Research Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. Dr. Goldenziel has clerked for Judge Thomas Buergenthal (Ret., International Court of Justice) and Prof. William W. Park on three ICSID investor-state international arbitration tribunals. She was a Scholar-in-Residence at the International Arbitration practice of WilmerHale in London in 2021. She is a member of the panel of neutrals for the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution, and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She is Co-Chair of the American Society of International Law‘s Southeast Interest Group and Vice-Chair of its Human Rights Interest Group. She is a recipient of the 100x Coaching Grant for Positive Intelligence coaching training. She lives in metro Washington, DC.
