Lisa Sharkey and Paul Gleicher recently completed one of the country’s first total Eco Houses, a “green” brownstone on the Upper West Side of New York City, where they reside with their three children. The house has gained national attention and has been endorsed by the Environmental Defense Fund, Good Housekeeping magazine, and the Children’s Health Environmental Coalition. Since its completion, Sharkey and Gleicher have been giving lectures around New York City and at their home about designing and decorating the green way, as well as offering eco-friendly lifestyle solutions – from the simple and easy to the costly and complex. They have written a book about green homes across America that will be published in 2008. Sharkey and Gleicher can be booked together or separately.
Gleicher is an architect with his own firm, Gleicher Design, but it was Sharkey who had the idea to go green when they bought an 1885 townhouse that needed a complete renovation. “I just had one of those Eureka! Moments and said, ‘Wow, we could do this. We should do this,' explains Sharkey. And we wanted to inspire people and to give back to the earth, and to teach our children the importance of this.”
Sharkey is the Senior Vice President and Director of Creative Development for HarperCollins Publishers Worldwide, one of the world’s leading English-language publishers and a subsidiary of News Corporation. She brings to her presentations a showbiz flair from working two decades in television.
A two-time Emmy Award winner and 10-time Emmy nominee, Sharkey was most recently the President of Al Roker Entertainment, one of New York City’s highest profile television production companies. From 2000 to 2005 Sharkey was Senior Producer for ABC’s Good Morning America where she oversaw GMA’s on-air contributors and produced the second hour of the show. Sharkey has been honored by a Peabody Award and a DuPont Award for her work at ABC covering the events surrounding September 11th. She has also written for Redbook and Child magazines. Sharkey was graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Gleicher is a Registered Architect in the State of New York, and his clients have included actors Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick and former New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
