Beth Stelling Biography

Beth Stelling is a stand-up comedian, writer and actress. She is a product of the Chicago stand-up scene and studied improv at The Annoyance Theater under Susan Messing and Mick Napier. Beth's background is in theatre; she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts from Miami University and interned at The School at Steppenwolf in Chicago.

Stelling became a member of Chicago Underground Comedy and hosted a Sunday night variety show in Boystown with her best friends, The Puterbaugh Sisters, for many years called Entertaining Julia (Julia was the bartender).

Beth was named the Best Stand-up Comedian in Chicago by The Chicago Reader in 2010. Soon after she was chosen to be a New Face of Comedy in Montreal's Just for Laughs Festival and made the move to Los Angeles in 2011. Within her first year in L.A., Beth made her late night television debut on Conan. She's since appeared on @midnight on Comedy Central, Chelsea Lately, The Pete Holmes Show and TV Guide's Stand-up In Stilettos. She also returned to Montreal's Just for Laughs Festival to record Funny As Hell with Jon Dore for HBO Canada.

Most recently Beth performed stand-up on Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC. Jimmy discovered Beth at Upright Citizens Brigade and invited her to tell jokes on his show. It was the coolest moment ever. Beth headlines comedy clubs across the United States and festivals like SXSW, Bumbershoot in Seattle, The Maui Comedy Festival, RIOT L.A., Chicago Women's Funny Festival, Moontower Comedy Festival, Portland's All Jane No Dick and San Francisco Sketchfest among others. She performs stand-up at colleges, bars, bookstores and sex shops. When she's not touring on her own, she has the distinct pleasure of opening for Anthony Jeselnik on some of his tour dates.

She released her debut album "Sweet Beth" in 2012 on Rooftop Comedy Records. It was New & Noteworthy in iTunes' Comedy section and received glowing reviews.

Beth has written for Comedy Central Digital, MTV's Ridiculousness and was a contributing writer of the play Five Lesbians Eating a Quiche, which saw an off-Broadway run in NYC and is published by Samuel French.

You can listen to Beth on podcasts like Chris Hardwick's annual Stand-up Cluster (2013), The Adam Carolla Show, Pete Holmes' podcast "You Made It Weird" #134 and her Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction victories all at Nerdist.com. Or on Bob & Tom Radio when she's in the Midwest!

She also appeared in the Showtime special "Comedy of SXSW" with comedians Todd Glass, Iliza Schlesinger, Nate Bargatze and more, hosted by W. Kamau Bell. And season 2 of "The Meltdown Show" with Jonah & Kumail.
