Carly Rae Jepsen Biography

Canadian singer-songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen debuted on the pop music scene in 2008 with "Tug of War," an album including two acclaimed singles, "Bucket" and "Tug of War." In February 2012, Jepsen produced her second album, "Curiosity," which included "Call Me Maybe," a tune that peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Candian Hot 100 chart. In 2012, she was signed to School Boy Records, an American record label that is partly run by Justin Bieber.

Jepsen's career started after she graduated from the Heritage Park Secondary School. She began performing at a local cafe in Vancouver, and in 2007, she gained mainstream attention after placing third on the reality television show "Canadian Idol." Jepsen's musical inspirations include pop singer Natalie Imbruglia, whose acclaimed 1997 song "Torn" was covered by Jepsen on Canadian Idol. However, her admiration also extends to artists such as Leonard Cohen, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, and Van Morrison.

Following "Curiosity," Jepsen released several studio albums, including "Kiss," "Emotion," "Dedicated," "The Loneliest Time," and "The Loveliest Time," the last of which was announced in July 2023. These albums include chart-topping singles such as "This Kiss" and "Tonight I'm Getting Over You." Among her awards are three Juno Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, an Allan Slaight Award, and the International Achievement Award at the SOCAN Awards 2014.

Aside from her music career, Jepsen has made significant contributions to Broadway theatre and voiced in an animated film. She played Frenchy in "Grease Live!" in January 2016 and has appeared on TV shows such as "90210" and "Saturday Night Live." She has also been a spokesperson and model for clothing retailer Wet Seal and is recognized as a Canadian LGBT rights activist.

Her discography, filmography, and award-winning music career aside, Jepsen's character is further exemplified by her decision to refuse to perform at the Boy Scout Jamboree due to their ban on gay scouts and her designation as a queer icon, having performed at several pride parades.

Currently, Jepsen continues to contribute to the music industry actively. In 2022, she added a studio space to her home in response to COVID-19 restrictions. That same year, she embarked on The So Nice Tour, scheduled to play 40 shows across North America, Europe, and Australia through March 2023.
