Michael P. Marsh is a dynamic individual with extensive non-profit, fundraising, fair housing and disability services/indepedent living experience. He helps individuals and organizations achieve self-sufficiency and sustainability by providing strategic leadership, talent acquisition and development, fund raising, government affairs and public relations expertise. Mr. Marsh is a Certified Fund Raising Executive and civil rights champion who was with the Toledo Fair Housing Center for 22 years, where he served as the President & CEO and was accountable for the strategic vision and successful operation of the agency and ensuring that the agency remained mission driven, while overseeing an annual operating budget in excess of $1 million and a staff of 10 persons.
Currently he serves as the President & CEO at Responsive Caregivers of Hawai’i (RCH), a non-profit organization founded in 1975 dedicated to creating independent and meaningful life experiences for adults with developmental disabilities. RCH is recognized for its responsive and compassionate programs and services to ensure that all Hawaii’s citizens with developmental disabilities and other special needs are integrated into the community and have meaningful relationships with family and friends. Mr. Marsh oversees a staff of 90 and a budget in excess of $3 million. RCH operates a day facility, a group home and facilitates a contract for transportation services with the City and County of Honolulu.
Mr. Marsh has been successful in building relationships with local, state and national media, resulting in extensive coverage of fair housing and disability/independent living issues and has appeared on numerous radio and television programs. He has been interviewed for articles in local, state and national publications. Mr. Marsh served for many years on the National Enforcement Advisory Committee of the National Fair Housing Alliance and has supervised multiple Fair Housing Initiatives Programs funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Mr. Marsh has extensive community development experience, most recently creating the MLK Inclusive Communities program that consisted of three initiatives: a roof replacement grant program in partnership with the Lucas County Land Bank; a home accessibility modification grant program in collaboration with the Ability Center of Greater Toledo; and an emergency mortgage assistance grant program administered by the Fair Housing Center. This program invested over $2 million into Toledo’s urban neighborhoods.
In a fund raising capacity, Mr. Marsh has been successful in raising over $10 million. He has experience with grant writing, annual giving and special events. Mr. Marsh served for many years on the National Fair Housing Alliance Resource Development Committee. He is also a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and has served on the US Government Relations Committee for AFP.
An alumnus of Bowling Green State University, Mr. Marsh earned a Master of Arts degree in American Culture Studies and a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism (cum laude). He taught for five years in Bowling Green State University’s Ethnic Studies Department, and he developed a cultural diversity training seminar for real estate professionals certified by the Ohio Division of Real Estate.
Active in the community, Mr. Marsh is a graduate of Community Leadership Toledo and a Past President of the Northwest Ohio Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. A Rotarian, he chaired the Disability Services Committee for the Rotary Club of Toledo. He served on the State of the State Conference on Equity, Diversity, and Opportunity Planning Committee for over 15 years and was a member of the University of Toledo Urban Affairs Center Advisory Committee. He is Past Chair of the Board of Directors for the Ability Center of Greater Toledo and was an Auxiliary Board member for the Beach House Family Shelter.
Mr. Marsh received the Community Partnership Award from the Ability Center of Greater Toledo in 2018; Leadership Award from the Ohio Diversity Council in 2016; the Equality Award from Equality Toledo in 2015; and the 20 Under 40 Leadership Award in 2005 and has completed leadership workshops at Harvard and Stanford Universities. He recently earned the Certificate in Nonprofit Executive Leadership from Indiana University. Finally, he has attended and presented at numerous conferences at the local, state and national levels.
An avid traveler, he has visited 56 countries and 40 states. His favorite destinations are New York, New Orleans and Aruba. He is the proud Dad to two tiny Yorkshire terriers, LuLu & Spike.
