Amy Chua Biography

Amy Chua is the John M. Duff Professor of Law at Yale Law School and a noted expert in the areas of foreign policy, globalization, and ethnic conflict. Her first book, "World on Fire: How Exporting Free Market Democracy Breeds Ethnic Hatred and Global Instability," a New York Times bestseller, was selected by both The Economist and the U.K.’s Guardian as one of the Best Books of 2003. She is also the author of the 2011 memoir "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother," a runaway international bestseller translated into 30 languages, and "The Triple Package," a 2013 New York Times bestseller co-authored with her husband, Jed Rubenfeld. Her first novel, "The Golden Gate" was also a New York Times bestseller and Edgar Award nominee.

Chua has appeared on television programs such as "Good Morning America," "The Today Show," "The View," "The Colbert Report," "Charlie Rose," "The Lehrer News Hour," and "Real Time With Bill Maher." Her writings have appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Forbes, the Financial Times. She has spoken at Aspen and Davos, and addressed numerous policymaking institutions, including the World Bank, the Brookings Institution, and the CIA.

In 2011, Chua was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world, an Atlantic Monthly Brave Thinker, and one of Foreign Policy’s Global Thinkers of 2011. She is also a multiple-time recipient of the Yale Law School’s “Best Teaching” award.

Chua lives in New Haven and New York City with her husband, Jed Rubenfeld, and her unbelievably cute Samoyed dogs.
