Greg Asner Biography

Global ecologist Dr. Greg Asner works at the interface of ecosystems, conservation, and climate sciences. His research covers a broad range of topics including tropical ecology, spatial ecology, biogeochemistry, and climate change. Asner develops scientific approaches and technologies for investigation and conservation assessments of large ecoregions. His work spans studies on carbon sequestration and emissions, animal habitats, coral reef resilience, and biological diversity.

Currently, Dr. Asner is the Conservation Director and the director of Arizona State University's (ASU) Center for Global Discovery and Conservation Science. He is also a member of the faculty in the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning and the School of Earth and Space Exploration at ASU. His innovative contributions to conservation science address key issues in these fields.

Dr. Asner has published hundreds of scientific articles and has served in numerous national and international programs with agencies such as NASA, the U.S. State Department, and the United Nations. He has received multiple scientific and sustainability awards and is an elected member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.
