When Nicole Sodoma opened the doors to Sodoma Law in 2008, it was with the intention of building a different kind of law firm. In her words, “When I started to put together the team, I focused on creating a culture unlike any other I had encountered: a “firm family” that showed commitment to our clients, to our team, and to our community.” Over time, this concept has become known as, “The Sodoma Way.”
In its first 12 months, Sodoma Law grew from 1 to 12 employees. While managing a client base and creating the firm’s brand, Sodoma turned her laser focus onto building the practice – somehow managing to do it without changing its core culture. With her direction, innovation, and resolve, Sodoma Law’s revenue increased by more than 20% in 12 months and has continued to have year over year double digit growth. The firm quickly became recognized as one of the fastest growing and best family law firms in North Carolina, attracting the most talented legal professionals available in the region. Thirteen years later, Sodoma Law has four offices across two states with over 20 fearless attorneys. With Sodoma at the helm, the firm is led by its practice leadership team, administrative team and a “culture crew” that brings it all together.
Over the past 25 years, Sodoma has been recognized not only for her commitment to her clients, but for her entrepreneurship, vision, and community involvement. As a family law attorney, with a fresh view and contacts in the business and legal communities, she was able to learn the ever-evolving intricacies of the family law practice while actively advancing her reputation of consistently meeting the needs of her clients, even adding a divorce personal assistant/concierge service. Her leadership statement, if she had one at the time of the firm’s inception, would have been “Don’t ask why you can’t do something. Ask why you are not already doing it?” She was noted by Business Leader Magazine as a Charlotte Mover & Shaker and was presented one of Charlotte’s 50 Top Entrepreneur Awards. She was also recognized as a 50 Most Influential Woman by the Mecklenburg Times, an award that is given to prominent women in business, government, law, education, and not-for profit fields in addition to multiple years of recognition as a Super Lawyer and Legal Elite for North Carolina. In 2022 Sodoma added Author to her list of accomplishments when her debut book, "Please Don’t Say You’re Sorry", was released.
Philanthropy has always been an important aspect of Sodoma’s life. That is why, in 2014, she extended the firm’s charitable giving arm by establishing the Sodoma Law Foundation. The Foundation supports organizations that improve the well-being of children regionally and nationally, and those that support the charitable endeavors of the region’s legal community.
Considered a thought leader in both family law, and as an entrepreneur, Sodoma has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, USA TODAY, Elle Magazine, The Washington Post, Business North Carolina, Entrepreneur, Business Insider, Redbook and INC. Magazine (to name a few). She regularly publishes articles across various publications including Thrive Global, SheKnows, and The Charlotte Observer.
