Adjoa Andoh Biography

Adjoa Andoh, a British actress with a diverse range of work in theatre, film, television, and audio dramas, has built a strong reputation in the performing arts. With lead roles in prestigious institutions such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, the Royal Court Theatre, and the Almeida Theatre, Andoh has not only performed but also directed acclaimed productions. She directed and starred in "Richard III" at Liverpool Playhouse and Rose Theatre Kingston, emphasizing the theme of Otherness. In the film, she appeared in Clint Eastwood's "Invictus" and is known for her portrayal of Lady Danbury in Netflix's "Bridgerton." Her extensive work in audio dramas has led Penguin Random House to title her the "Queen of audio and radio drama."

Andoh's contribution to the literary world is noteworthy. She has served on various awards committees, including the Women's Prize for Playwriting, the BAME science fiction writer’s award for Gollancz, the Literature Matters Awards for the Royal Society of Literature, the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, and was a jury member for the Booker Prize. She is also a co-founder of the Future Worlds Prize for science fiction writers of color. Her narration skills have been utilized in over 150 audiobooks and the ITV documentary series "The Real Crown: Inside the House of Windsor." She is also working on a television version of Vanessa Riley's novel "The Island Queen."

Andoh's influence extends to academia as a teacher at the Royal Academy of Arts (RADA) and Rose Bruford College. She was named an Honorary Fellow at Rose Bruford College and an Honorary Fellowship by the British Shakespeare Association. She has also been a Cameron Mackintosh Visiting Professor of Contemporary Theatre at St. Catherine’s College, University of Oxford. Beyond her professional and academic accomplishments, Andoh is a Fairtrade Ambassador and has delivered a TED talk at TEDxBermuda about her experience as a parent of a trans child.
