Shaun M. Anderson Biography

Dr. Shaun M. Anderson is the Department Chair and Associate Professor of Sport and Organizational Communication at Loyola Marymount University. He is an award-winning, internationally recognized scholar, and global authority on sports and social responsibility. A highly sought after and trusted media commentator, Anderson has been featured on several mainstream media outlets and podcasts including ESPN, NBC, The Tavis Smiley Show, HuffPost, Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Colors: A Dialogue on Race in America, and Get Authentic with Marques Ogden.

He is the author of the bestselling book, "The Black Athlete Revolt": 'The Sport Justice Movement' in the Age of #BlackLivesMatter (Rowman and Littlefield, 2023), which was described by Publisher’s Weekly as "meticulous and enlightening, this scores" is a timely and significant examination of how Black athletes have used their influence to create meaningful change and reform for Black Americans. His next book tentatively titled, Sport for the Global Good: Harnessing the Power of Sport for Social Change (Oxford University Press, anticipated 2024) will create the blueprint for organizations who want to use sport to develop tangible social responsibility initiatives.

Outside of the academy, he is the founder of CSR Global Consulting, LLC where he advises organizations on developing and implementing their social responsibility initiatives. He has advised several global brands including Nike, MLB, PBS, Athletic Greens, Better, The Aspire Group, Digital River, and the ADL among others.

In 2018, he was named a Black Enterprise Magazine "BE Man of Distinction" for his commitment to seeing the power of sport to usher in social change. That same year, he was also named an honorary basketball coach for LMU Lion’s Women’s Basketball Team for his commitment to teaching, scholarship, and service to the university. He served as the Voices of Diversity Division Chair for the Eastern Communication Association. He holds a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from West Virginia University, an MS in Mass Communication from Arkansas State University, and a BA in Mass Communication from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
