Nature is the most exploited worker in history, providing countless 'work' and services to us for free. As a result, nature's services have been taken for granted and have been providing an invisible subsidy to our economies, and treated as essentially free. This has caused us to overdraw on nature, leading to ecosystem breakdown, especially climate change.
The talk focuses on reversing this negative trend, using new and at times controversial new economics tools, such as carbon markets, the forest resilience bond, and coral reef insurance to begin to treat natural resources as assets and infrastructure.
The talk brings environmental economics down to earth and is of interest to anyone with an interest in money and how it can work for the greater good, especially investors, educators and corporate executives facing demands to align their business with broad environmental and social values.
This talk focused on my career as a writer, what is has taken, and the extraordinary exploits I have had. (See above, 'Woman of Firsts'. The talk is of interest across all sectors-focusing on adventure, global travel, the work of being a writer, mentorship, and the power and importance of creativity in advancing social progress and the purpose of life.
This talk focuses on my life as a woman undertaking rare and extraordinary exploits, often taking them for granted as they happened and understanding them as special only after the fact. (See above Woman of Firsts). The talk focused on how to work with mentors, choose one's battles, make convincing arguments against the odds, hold one's own in negotiations with men, press for breakthroughs in the face of bottlenecks, in short, how I've tried to pull all my skills and creativity together to change the world and accentuate the joys of living.
