Boundaries are not mean or selfish, nor are they designed to push people away. When used correctly, boundaries are essential for preserving healthy relationships and building community in our personal lives and in the workplace. During this speech, you will learn about not just what boundaries are, but tools for building healthy communication and assertiveness, how to build distress tolerance when facing someone’s boundary, and insight into building mindset shifts to reframe negative, fear-based thinking.
Mental health issues do not look the same on everyone and this talk highlights how mental health impacts the Black community from a personal, social and systemic lens. This talk is designed to shed light on the impact of racial trauma along with microaggressions in the workplace and give tools on what we can do about it as a community, and not place the burden only Black people to educate others on how to be antiracist and promote community-care. This talk also provides practical tools and guidance for Black people to maintain their mental health and well-being through coping strategies and tools for building self-advocacy.
In this TED-style talk, participants will learn about the critical role of social capital in achieving upward mobility, building strong communities, and mitigating complex mental health issues. They will gain an understanding of social capital, which encompasses the vast networks, relationships, and connections that individuals have with others, providing unparalleled access to resources and endless opportunities. Moreover, they will learn how to increase their social capital and cultivate community care by using their resources, power, and privileges to improve economic and social outcomes while contributing to their communities’ overall development and mental health.
When individuals feel part of a caring community, they are more likely to experience a sense of connection and purpose in their workplace, school, and other aspects of their lives. This can lead to higher levels of engagement and productivity.
In this talk, participants will learn about social capital – the resources available to individuals and groups through their social networks and relationships – and how to use it to build their circle of support. This talk will also provide insight into empathy as a skill to enhance connection, co-regulation as a stress response practice, and tools for combating loneliness through community care.
