Kaitlin Soule Biography

Kaitlin Soule is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Mental Health Expert in California who specializes in Women’s Mental Health, Modern Parenthood, and Anxiety Disorders. Beyond her work as a therapist Soule is a mom to three, a wife to a firefighter, and the author of the newly released book, "A Little Less of A Hot Mess," Soule brings a fresh and modern voice to the world of psychology and has been published and featured in various media outlets including NBC News, The Washington Post, NY Post, Scary Mommy, Psych Central, Romper, Oxygen, ABC, Motherly and more. By leading conversations about mental health, Soule helps modern women develop more agency and move towards a life that lines up with their values instead of their fears.

Even as a therapist, like many moms, Soule has often found herself drowning under the invisible load of motherhood. Eye opening experiences like pregnancy loss, postpartum struggle, raising three children during a global pandemic while trying to run a business, and getting diagnosed with Anxiety and ADHD as an adult have inspired Kaitlin to combine her personal and clinical expertise to help women rewrite and reclaim their own life stories.

Soule wrote "A Little Less of a Hot Mess: The Modern Mom's Guide to Growth and Evolution", to invite women to reclaim their identity with a practical framework called imperfect growth and evolution™. In efforts to bring dialogue around mental health and growth to everyday women, Soule hosts a podcast called, "A little Less of A Hot Mess: Off The Couch Conversation With A Therapist". As a previous TV Producer and Story-Teller, Soule enjoys bringing her worlds together by contributing to the media, writing, and speaking on topics of mental health and parenting. Kaitlin has been published in various news publications and is a frequent contributor to national media.

    3. The language to talk about the mental, emotional and domestic load with your partner so you can reclaim your time, the most valuable commodity you have.
    4. Empowered to get interested in your whole self again, beyond your roles(parent, partner, professional).

  • The Y.E.S. Mindset: The Way Towards Better Mental Health for the Modern Women at Work, Home and beyond.

Summary: It’s no secret that moms still disproportionately carry the brunt of the mental and physical load when it comes to running a household. According to Motherly’s 2023 State of Motherhood Report, women are feeling more resigned than ever to the role of "doing it all" and as a result, 62% of mothers report getting less than one hour to themselves each day. On top of that, 48% of moms report "always" or "frequently" feeling burned out.

Content: As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, an author of "A Little Less Of A Hot Mess", and a busy mom to three, I know what it feels like to have mixed feelings about the role of being a women in a world where it feels like we're supposed to "do it all and be it all" WITHOUT the resources to do so.

A question I’ve started asking myself and my clients is this; what if we shifted our perspective a bit? While we tend to want instant gratification and total change, in the world of psychology we know that actual and sustainable change doesn’t happen overnight and/or easily. Real change, on both a social and a personal level, happens with a shift in perspective and sustained effort:

    • Y• You Come First + You Get to Decide Putting ourselves first is not selfish, but instead it’s self-preservation. Not only are we deserving of being well just because we’re human, but also, it’s important to note that our overall sense of well-being directly relates to that of our children’s! Our notion of wellness has to go beyond a few minutes for ourselves to go to the bathroom, and towards doing things often that honor our whole self beyond "mom". (i.e. enjoyable movement, time with friends, making space for laughter and creativity). As a grown adult, you can decide what you want the holiday’s to look like for yourself and your kids. In other words, you can write a new holiday story, if the one written for you is too overwhelming or underwhelming. You don’t have to use the nice china, host people you don’t enjoy being around, or uphold a tradition that no longer honors your values.

    • E• Equity is essential. In this modern world, we can’t do it all alone...share the load. Work with your partner, family, or community to set up a system to divide responsibilities and household chores, so you have more time and space for your own needs and desires. Contrary to what we may have been taught, it’s NOT our job to make the holiday season magical for everyone and unbearable for ourselves.

    • S• Setting boundaries is Key.

    • Boundaries are key to healthy relationships with yourself and others. How: Pick just one boundary to set and hold this holiday season. It could be as simple as saying "no" to a family party that always seems to make you feel more stress than joy, or "yes" to a new and unconventional activity.
