As the requirement in many business sectors has become 'do more with less,' many of us are asking, 'How can I sustain resilience and creativity in my life and as a leader?' This session will explore how to maintain mental health, curiosity, discipline and positive empowerment for yourself and your team. Having lead teams on different scales • 20 to 350 • in volatile conditions, I understand how critical it is to personally embrace and then extend to those around you a balance of inspiration and discipline. Helping your team believe that experimentation and inventiveness is integral to success will foster an environment of bold creativity. Further, when we utilize the ideas of resilience as a creative leader, the fear of failure for yourself and your team will reveal not a reflection of worth, but rather an opportunity for growth and creative fearlessness.
Fear is an omnipresent force in our everyday lives, influencing our actions, and emotions and extending to our co-workers and loved ones. The prospect of failure triggers anxiety, apprehension, or doubt. As a practitioner of Karate for 25 years, I've learned a thing or two about facing down fear, whether it's in the form of deescalating a conflict on the streets of New York, or remembering 30 precise moves in front of a panel of black belt judges.
On the deck, we're taught that we can harness fear to propel us forward, to push past our doubt. Fear can serve as a compass, pointing us towards hidden talents and new perspectives. Embracing uncertainty fosters adaptability and the essential qualities for creative exploration. When we lean into our fears, we invite innovation that can transcend limitations and unlock our full creative potential. In other words, make mistakes! Break things! Fail! Let it happen and be humble. Through this process of courageous exploration, we not only cultivate a deeper sense of fulfillment and purpose but also enrich our abilities as a creative, and as a leader with newfound joy and vigor.
