She has published two nonfiction books: "The Pirate’s Wife; The Remarkable True Story of Sarah Kidd" and "The Pirate Next Door: The Untold Story of Eighteenth Century Pirates’ Wives, Families and Communities." Currently she under contract with HarperCollins to write "Revolutionary Women," a biography of five women who helped shape events around the American Revolution. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Southern Living, Virginia Business and other outlets.

A former Legislative aide to a United States Congressman, she holds a Doctor of Liberal Studies degree and a Master of Liberal Studies degree from Georgetown University. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from The George Washington University.

She has spoken as the featured guest on more than seventy-five occasions at libraries, historical societies, museums, literary groups and bookstores, and has appeared on numerous radio and podcast interviews.
