Flying a combat mission over Vietnam, Carey’s aircraft was shot down. As a motivational speaker, Carey relates his experiences as a P.O.W. for 5& 1/2/ years to help people better understand the prison-like aspects they may experience in their personal and professional lives. Drawing from his extensive experience as: a P.O.W.; a leader of several organizations himself; and, as a trainer and consultant, he brings to his audiences a positive, up-beat message about being your best - doing your best - no matter the circumstances!

Given the present difficult professional and personal situations caused by the siege of the coronavirus, Carey’s presentations have become increasingly relevant. His experience and insight on how to deal effectively with: difficult situations, an uncertain future, change, bad business cycles, all the pressure in our personal and professional lives is encouraging, enlightening and reassuring.

He reminds us of the power that is stored within each of us. His personal story, told with intensity and humor, inspires and empowers others to gain a renewed sense of purpose, and overcome seemingly insurmountable difficulties.

Additionally, Carey is an author, his book, "The Ways We Choose, Lessons for Life from a POW’s Experience" captures the essence of his message and has received rave reviews.

A graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Carey is a retired Navy Captain. He was three times selected to be a Commanding Officer and served as the Director of the Navy’s premiere site for leadership and management training. In this role he personally led leadership seminars for prospective commanding and executive officers.
