Steve Gresham is an experienced financial executive with a career spanning over 38 years, primarily in wealth management. He is currently the Executive Vice President and Director of Retail Markets for Phoenix Investment Partners, Ltd., a $42 billion asset-management division of The Phoenix Companies, Inc. In addition, he holds the position of Senior Vice President – Asset Management Distribution for The Phoenix Companies, Inc.
Before joining Phoenix in July 2001, Gresham managed his own consulting firm, The Gresham Company, LLC. His clients included top financial institutions such as Merrill Lynch International, where he played a crucial role in developing the Private Wealth advisory program, and other major firms including Schwab Institutional, National Financial, Citibank Private Bank, Prudential Investments, Goldman Sachs, and AIM Distributors. His consultancy work involved collaborations with over 50 domestic and international financial services firms.
Gresham's early career began in 1980 as a security analyst and portfolio manager for the US advisor to The Central Group of Canada, Ltd. He later built a successful investment advisory practice at Advest, Inc., from 1983 to 1987, and subsequently managed Advest’s mutual fund and managed account businesses until 1991. His pioneering contributions during this time included the development of some of the industry’s first fee-based accounts. Gresham continued his leadership in retail asset management distribution at Systematic Financial Management, Inc. (1991-94) and Weiss, Peck & Greer, LLC (1994-97), where he launched The Tomorrow Funds, a lifecycle mutual fund series.
An active participant in industry media, Gresham has appeared on several major networks including CNN, Bloomberg, and PBS, and has been featured in publications such as Business Week, Fortune, and The New York Times. He is the author of notable books including "The Managed Account Handbook" and "Attract and Retain the Affluent Investor," with combined sales exceeding 20,000 copies. Additionally, he has written columns for On Wall Street magazine and Registered Rep magazine, where he currently writes the "Retirement Doctor" column with his father, Dr. Glen E. Gresham.
Gresham serves on the executive council of the board of governors at The Money Management Institute and is a founding board member of The Money Management Institute International. He is also an independent director of Chase Investment Counsel Corporation in Charlottesville, VA, and a graduate of Brown University.
