Former Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons All-Pro tight end, Tony Gonzalez, joined FOX Sports as a studio analyst for the 2017 NFL Season. Gonzalez served as a fixture on FOX NFL Kickoff, FOX’s hour-long NFL pregame show preceding FOX NFL Sunday, airing each Sunday at 11:00 AM ET during the NFL season until his departure in 2020. He contributed to sports analysis on CBS’s "The NFL Today" from 2014 to 2016, and notably co-hosted Fox’s Thursday NFL pregame show, which was nominated for a 2020 Sports Emmy Award for ‘Outstanding Studio Show – Weekly.’
Gonzalez offers insightful analysis, drawing on his 17-year NFL playing career, where he established himself as one of the greatest tight ends in the game. In 2019, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His NFL career spanned 17 years: 12 with Kansas City after being their first-round pick in 1997, and 5 with Atlanta before his retirement in 2013. He is the NFL’s all-time leader in touchdowns (111) and yards (15,127) by a tight end. He also holds records for consecutive starts (120) and Pro Bowl appearances (14) by a tight end, and ranks second overall among all players in catches, with 1,325.
Following his retirement after the 2013 NFL season, Gonzalez expanded his career into acting and hosting. He stars as Desmond Porter in Spectrum Originals’ drama series "Long Slow Exhale" and is involved in production for the upcoming feature "Fantasy Football" by Nickelodeon and Awesomeness Films. Gonzalez also appeared in multiple episodes of "NCIS" as Special Agent Tony Francis and made his feature film debut in "xXx: Return of Xander Cage." His documentary "Play It Forward" premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2015 and aired on Showtime.
In 2021, Gonzalez announced his move to pursue television and film roles in Hollywood full-time. He joined Amazon Prime Video’s "Thursday Night Football" as an NFL analyst in fall 2022. In addition to his television and film projects, Gonzalez hosts the podcast "Wide Open with Tony Gonzalez," which focuses on health and fitness topics and has been ranked within the top 50 Health & Fitness podcasts on Apple's platform.
Gonzalez is also an author and entrepreneur, developing multimedia programs that advocate sports for children in an educational format, and has launched the Tony Gonzalez Poncho capsule collection in partnership with MSX and G-III, officially licensed by the NFL. His philanthropic efforts include partnerships with the Boys and Girls Clubs and Shadow Buddies, and he serves as an ambassador for Scholars' Hope. He has been actively involved with Give Power and won a Presidential Volunteer Award for his work with the Books and Buddies Project.
Gonzalez attended the University of California, where he played football and basketball and majored in Psychology. During his junior season, he recorded 46 receptions for 699 yards and five touchdowns, earning him first-team All-Pac 10 and first-team All-America honors. He also started for the California basketball team, averaging 17.1 points and seven rebounds, and helped lead them to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship.
