Amara La Negra

Born in Miami as Diana Danelys De los Santos, Amara La Negra grew up influenced by music legends like Celia Cruz and Beyoncé, singing, dancing, and acting from a young age. At 4, she won the contest "Miss Chiquita" on the Hispanic variety show, Sábado Gigante. This early exposure marked the beginning of a career defined by resilience in the face of scrutiny related to her Afro-Latina identity. After years of conforming to industry pressures, she adopted the stage name Amara La Negra, which celebrates black femininity, and vowed to stop policing her body.

La Negra was raised by her mother, Ana Maria, who emigrated from the Dominican Republic. Ana Maria worked multiple jobs in Miami to fund her daughter's burgeoning career in the performing arts, a dedication that fostered La Negra's development as a dancer, actor, and model. From an early age, La Negra's mother encouraged her to embrace her natural beauty and heritage.

With her breakout role on "Love & Hip Hop: Miami" in 2018, La Negra shone a spotlight on the numerous barriers women like her face within the entertainment industry, especially issues related to sexism, classism, colorism, and racism. Her music blends a variety of Caribbean rhythms such as Dembow, Reggaeton, Tropical, Soul, Dance, Pop, R&B, and Soca. La Negra has shared stages with renowned artists including Gloria Estefan, Oscar de León, and Milly Quezada, and has participated in notable events like Premios Lo Nuestro, the Latin GRAMMYs, Premios Juventud, and the Latin Billboards.

In addition to her musical accomplishments, La Negra is a successful entrepreneur with her own fashion line, “ALN,” offering vibrant swimwear and a range of clothing options. Her entrepreneurial spirit extends to acting and modeling, where she has featured in commercials for major brands such as Hawaiian Punch, Oscar Meyer, and Walt Disney World. More recently, she continues to work with top producers, further expanding her influence in the music industry.

Beyond entertainment, La Negra is deeply committed to philanthropy and activism, focusing on racial equality and women's empowerment. She has performed at benefit concerts like The American Cancer Society and actively participates in discussions and initiatives supporting diversity in both Latino and African-American communities.
