Amy Ziering is an Emmy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmaker renowned for her investigative work on significant social issues.
Ziering has directed and produced impactful films including "Allen v Farrow" (HBO – 7 Emmy Nominations) and the "Allen v Farrow Podcast" (2 Webby Awards – Webby Winner and People’s Voice Winner, 2022). She also created "Not So Pretty" (HBO MAX), an investigative expose on the cosmetics industry which played a role in getting Johnson & Johnson to remove talc from the U.S. market. Her work on "On The Record" (HBO MAX) explores the challenges Black women face in seeking justice for assault crimes, and "The Bleeding Edge" (NETFLIX – 2018 George Polk Award and 2020 duPont-Columbia Award) revealed dangers in the medical device industry leading to product withdrawals.
Her film "The Hunting Ground"—a profound exposé of rape culture on college campuses—initiated policy changes across numerous states and educational institutions. "The Invisible War", another seminal work, examines sexual assault in the U.S. military and influenced Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta to implement significant policy changes, and prompted Congress to enact 35 pieces of reform legislation.
Ziering also produced "Outrage", a sharp critique of the duplicity of closeted politicians and the systems that shield them, and co-directed and produced "Derrida", a documentary about French philosopher Jacques Derrida. Additionally, she has been involved in other significant projects such as "Cameraperson" and "Awake: A Dream From Standing Rock" as an executive producer.
Her accolades include two Emmy Awards, an Oscar nomination, a Peabody Award, the Independent Spirit Award, a duPont-Columbia Award, and the George Polk Award. She is also the recipient of the 2012 Nestor Almendros Prize for Courage in Filmmaking, the 2013 Ridenhour Documentary Film Prize, and the 2013 Gracie Award for Outstanding Producer – News/Non-Fiction.
Currently, Ziering is working on new projects including an original investigative feature for Netflix and a project titled "Hollywood Assaults". Her frequent media appearances include CNN, MSNBC, "The Daily Show", and "Good Morning America", where she discusses topics related to media impact on culture, activism, and gender equity in film.
