Andrés Gómez Santos is an Ecuadorian former professional tennis player known for his clay court prowess. Gómez achieved significant success during his career, highlighted by his stunning victory at the 1990 French Open. In a memorable final, he defeated the young rising star Andre Agassi, capturing his first and only Grand Slam singles title.
Throughout his career, Gómez won a total of 21 singles titles and 33 doubles titles on the ATP Tour, showcasing his versatility and skill in both formats. He reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 4 in 1990. In doubles, Gómez achieved even greater success, reaching the No. 1 ranking in 1986 and winning prestigious titles, including the US Open in 1986 and the French Open in 1988. His exceptional net play and strategic acumen made him a formidable doubles partner.
After retiring, Gómez continued to contribute to tennis by coaching and mentoring young players.
