Azadeh Moaveni

Azadeh Moaveni is an author, journalist, and associate professor at New York University, where she directs the Global Journalism Program. Her scholarly and journalistic work delves into the interactions between gender and armed conflict, particularly focusing on women’s rights, security, and political participation. Moaveni has reported extensively on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, in addition to her coverage from nations like Egypt, Iran, Lebanon, Syria, and Tunisia.

As a correspondent for the Los Angeles Times and Time Magazine, her in-depth reporting and unique insights have been a significant part of her career. Moaveni is the author of "Lipstick Jihad" and "Honeymoon in Tehran," and co-author of "Iran Awakening" with Shirin Ebadi, an Iranian Nobel Peace Laureate. Her recent book, "Guest House for Young Widows: Among the Women of ISIS," has been recognized extensively, being shortlisted for the Baillie Gifford Prize, the Rathbones Folio Prize, and listed as a New York Times Notable Book in 2019.
