Barbara Eden is an American actress best known for her starring role as Jeannie in the popular sitcom "I Dream of Jeannie." Besides her impressive run on "I Dream of Jeannie," she also starred as Lieutenant jg Cathy Connors in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Stella Johnson in Harper Valley PTA, and Roslyn Pierce in Flaming Star. Eden has been active in the entertainment industry since 1950 and has received numerous honors for her work.
Throughout her career, Eden has also starred in various television series, including "Dallas" and "Sabrina: The Teenage Witch." She has also appeared in a number of feature films, top-rated television movies like The Feminist and the Fuzz and A Howling in the Woods, as well as stage productions such as the Lee Guber and Shelly Gross national production of the musical comedy "Woman of the Year" from April 3 to September 16, 1984. Her work in the entertainment industry extends to voice acting as well, having done voice work for the animated children's television series "Shimmer and Shine."
As a singer, Eden has headlined at many of America's top hotel resorts and casinos in Lake Tahoe, Atlantic City, and Las Vegas, including the MGM Grand, Caesar's Palace, Desert Inn, and Harrah's, as well as on concert stages and in theaters around the country. She has even released an album titled "Miss Barbara Eden." In 1988, Eden received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and, in 1990, an honorary doctor of law degree from the University of West Los Angeles Law School.
Eden is also a published author, having written books including "Jeannie Out of the Bottle" and "Barbara and the Djinn," as well as a memoir about her time on "I Dream of Jeannie." Outside of her acting and writing, Eden continues to make appearances on various TV shows and events, most recently appearing on "Worst Cooks," a celebrity cooking show, and at the opening ceremony of the 21st Life Ball in Vienna in 2013, wearing her famous Jeannie harem costume.
Eden remains active in philanthropy, working on behalf of numerous national and local charities, including such organizations as the American Cancer Society, the Wellness Community, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the March of Dimes, the American Heart Association, Save the Children, and ChildHelp. In 2020, she was honored by the SF Conservatory of Music for her ongoing contributions to the arts.
