Bea Johnson

Bea Johnson is a Franco-American author, speaker, and minimalist known for initiating the Zero Waste Lifestyle Movement. She has made significant contributions to environmental advocacy by promoting waste-free living and is widely recognized for the creation of the trash jar method where her family's annual garbage fits into a pint-sized container.

Johnson is the author of "Zero Waste Home: The Ultimate Guide to Simplifying your Life by Reducing your Waste" (Scribner, 2013), which has been a bestseller and translated into 26 languages. She developed The 5Rs of Zero Waste, an effective methodology based on Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot, intended to guide individuals and businesses in reducing their waste. This book has held the number one spot on Amazon in the waste category since its publication.

Her influence extends globally as she has delivered nearly 400 talks in over 65 countries across six continents. Her speaking engagements have included three TED talks and presentations at major institutions and corporations such as Google, Amazon, Starbucks, IKEA, the European Parliament, and the United Nations. Johnson is also a Grand Prize winner of The Green Awards and creator of the Bulk Finder app, which directs users to thousands of bulk locations worldwide.
