Bill Durkin

Bill Durkin, President and founder of One Positive Place, is an internationally known keynote speaker, seminar leader and coach. He has had a positive impact, for the last 23 years, on thousands of leaders and team players around the world.

Establishing his career in the education industry in 1980, Bill joined

1. Clement Stone Enterprises and traveled throughout the United States teaching Mr. Stone's Positive Mental Attitude programs to prisoners who were trying to change their lives. In 1983, he joined The Forum Corporation, an internationally known training and consulting firm. The Forum Corporation is a global leader in workplace learning. For three decades, Forum has pioneered new ways to achieve business results through learning. They specialize in creating innovative solutions that help companies build competitive advantage and lasting customer loyalty.

In 1987 Bill started his own firm with a mission to help organizations create a positive community that Bring Out the Best in Everyone.

His experience has taught him that, for the majority of people, short-term speeches and seminars are not enough. When new attitudes and skills are taught without follow-up, old behavior resumes quickly. Participants may develop the desire to change, but after a few days most people are back to their old habits.

Adult learners benefit most when theories apply to real-world situations, when problem solving is practiced in a supportive environment, and when learning is reinforced on a regular basis.

Most programs do a good job at educating participants, but there is not much connection between education and performance. Adults don’t learn by reading or talking about skills, they learn by taking action. Knowledge is important; it’s just not enough for people to change behavior.

In addition to his responsibilities with One Positive Place, Bill volunteers his time as President of two non-profit organizations: Stauros USA and The National Speakers Association-Illinois Chapter.

Stauros USA addresses both the physical and spiritual needs of those who suffer in a way that faith is strengthened and hope flourishes.

The National Speakers Association-Illinois is the local chapter for NSA, the recognized voice of the speaking profession that sets the benchmark for platform excellence worldwide.

Bill was also selected to the International Who’s Who of entrepreneurs, an organization that honors individuals for their efforts to create economic growth and improved productivity. In addition, Bill has been honored with the prestigious Gold Leaf Award recognizing his outstanding volunteer work that strengthens families and communities.
