Bob Collymore Biography
Bob Collymore is CEO of Safaricom Ltd., a leading communications company in Africa and pioneer of M-PESA, a mobile payment system.
He has 30 years of experience in telecommunications and has worked in Japan, South Africa, and Britain, where he's held senior roles in marketing, purchasing, retail and corporate affairs.
Collymore was appointed to the U.N.'s Global Compact Board, seen as recognition of Safaricom's commitment to environmental and anti-corruption issues as well as the work it is undertaking to address maternal health and child mortality.
He has also served on the United Nations Commission on Life-Saving Commodities for women and children. In Kenya, he sits on the Vision 2030 Delivery Board and is the founding trustee of the National Road Safety Trust. He is also chairman of the board of TEAMS (the East African Marine System).
Collymore was awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear for his service to Kenya by the president in December 2012.
