Known prominently for his role as the host on "This Old House," Vila has become a familiar face in the realm of home improvement television. He continued his TV presence with shows like "Bob Vila's Home Again," which was later renamed "Bob Vila," and "Restore America with Bob Vila." His episodes are available online, extending his reach to those interested in DIY home projects. Additionally, Vila made cameo appearances on the sitcom "Home Improvement."

Before his broadcasting career, Vila owned a residential remodeling and design business. His early experiences also include serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Panama, where he was involved in building houses and communities. Vila's deep-rooted connection to construction began in his youth, learning from his father who constructed their family home. He has authored ten books, including a five-book series titled "Bob Vila’s Guide to Historic Homes of America," sharing his extensive knowledge on remodeling, buying dream homes, and exploring historic American homes.

In "Building Green," Vila introduced audiences to the latest in green building technologies and products. He has consistently emphasized the balance between innovation and tradition in home improvement, guiding viewers on how to integrate modern solutions with classic styles. His commitment to environmental consciousness and sustainable building practices underscores much of his work.

His contributions extend to international projects, such as the restoration of Ernest Hemingway’s home, Finca Vigía, in Cuba, reflecting his dedication to preserving cultural heritage. Currently residing in Florida, Vila spends his summers in Massachusetts. He studied journalism at the University of Florida in the 1960s and later pursued architecture in Boston. His ongoing involvement with charitable organizations, including The Hemingway Preservation Foundation and the Vila Foundation, continues to impact communities both locally and globally.
