Chaz Bono

Chaz Bono is an LGBTQ rights advocate, three-time author, speaker, and the only child of famed entertainers Sonny and Cher. Bono's decision to come out as a lesbian in 1995 prompted his public work in support of LGBTQ rights and social justice.

Bono has contributed as a writer-at-large to The Advocate and in 1996 became the Human Rights Campaign's National Coming Out Day spokesperson. He also served as Entertainment Media Director for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), and continues to engage audiences at universities and LGBTQ events annually.

An acclaimed author, Bono has penned three books including "Transition," released by Dutton in May of 2011. "Transition" provides a candid account of his 40-year struggle to align his gender identity with his physical body and his transformation from female to male.

Bono's life and experiences were also depicted in the three-time Emmy-nominated documentary, "Becoming Chaz." The film, which reveals the humanity and courage it takes for Bono to ultimately embrace his true self, received a standing ovation at its Sundance Film Festival debut and was lauded for impacting the American conversation about transgender issues. The world television premiere of the documentary aired on the Oprah Winfrey Network, receiving excellent ratings.

In 2011, Bono competed in the 13th season of ABC's "Dancing With The Stars," where he was excited to compete athletically and continue to create awareness and impact change for the LGBT community. Moreover, Bono has made cameo appearances on ABC Family's "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" and Teen Nick's "Degrassi." He recently starred in a 30 Minute Musical adaptation of Patrick Swayze's "Roadhouse," where he sang original songs and played the role of Tinker. Bono continues to pursue his passion for acting with upcoming projects.

Bono currently resides in Los Angeles.
