Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell is an Irish actor known for his diverse performances in both independent films and major Hollywood blockbusters. Farrell initially pursued acting at the Gaiety School of Acting. He left before completing his studies after being cast in the BBC drama "Ballykissangel" in 1998. His breakthrough role came in 2000 with the film "Tigerland," directed by Joel Schumacher, marking the start of his rise to fame.

Farrell quickly became one of Hollywood’s sought-after actors, starring in a series of high-profile films throughout the early 2000s. He performed in "Minority Report" alongside Tom Cruise and "Phone Booth," further solidifying his reputation as a talented actor. Farrell continued to take on challenging roles, including his portrayal of Alexander the Great in Oliver Stone’s "Alexander," his performance in "In Bruges," for which he received a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical, and his role as a villain in "Daredevil."

Farrell has been recognized for his versatility, seamlessly transitioning between genres such as comedy, science fiction, drama, and fantasy. His films include "The Lobster," for which he received critical acclaim and a Golden Globe nomination, and Yorgos Lanthimos's "The Killing of a Sacred Deer." He also starred in the second season of HBO's thriller series "True Detective" in 2015 and played Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot / Penguin in "The Batman" in 2022. His portrayal of Penguin will continued in a spin-off solo series on HBO Max. In the same year, he won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor and another Golden Globe for his role in "The Banshees of Inisherin."

In addition to his film work, Farrell has been recognized for his advocacy work. He participated in the Special Olympics World Games in Shanghai as a spokesperson in 2007 and supported the anti-bullying campaign Stand Up! organized by the Irish LGBT youth organization BeLonG To in 2012. He became an official Ambassador of the Homeless World Cup in 2015 and announced the establishment of the Colin Farrell Foundation in 2024, which provides support to adults with intellectual disabilities and their families.
