Cookie Johnson

Cookie Johnson, wife of legendary basketball player Earvin 'Magic' Johnson, is a dedicated public servant and devoted philanthropist. She serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Magic Johnson Foundation and is also a member of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture Council. In these roles, she addresses underserved communities' health, social, and educational needs, plays a pivotal role in shaping the Foundation's overall goals, objectives, and programs, and contributes to the preservation and celebration of African American history and culture.

Johnson launched her premium denim line, "CJ by Cookie Johnson," in 2009, demonstrating her entrepreneurial spirit and her commitment to empowerment through fashion. Beyond her business endeavors, she is also an advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community, engaging in speaking engagements and supporting related organizations. This work further exemplifies Johnson's commitment to social causes and making a difference in the lives of others.

Johnson was the first spokeswoman for the "I Stand with Magic" campaign, where she joined forces with her husband, the Magic Johnson Foundation, and Abbott to end Black HIV/AIDS. She also serves on the board of SodexoMAGIC, further extending her influence in the realms of health and education. Johnson additionally helped establish the BREATHE Program, a national asthma awareness initiative.

She is an honorary chairperson for the Children’s Defense Fund and chairman of Prototypes, a program that provides education and care for women and children affected by HIV/AIDS. Johnson also involves herself in the Successful Young Women’s Program at West Angeles Church of God in Christ and participates in "Have I Got a Story to Tell" with All Trees Productions, demonstrating her passion for empowering young women and sharing impactful stories.

Johnson's outstanding community service has been recognized with numerous awards. In 2005, she received the Mother Hale Award, the Community Service Award from the Hollywood NAACP in 2006, and the Lullaby Ball Award in 2007. The Behind the Bench Association also honored her with a Humanitarian Award in 2007. In 2016, Johnson published her memoir, "Believing in Magic," making her a New York Times bestselling author and adding to her multifaceted career of service, entrepreneurship, and activism.
