Damon Wayans, Sr.

Damon Wayans is a seasoned actor, comedian, writer, and producer recognized for his work in television, film, and stand-up comedy. He was born in a family that produced several notable comedians and entertainers. Starting his career as a stand-up comic, Wayans gained popularity for his distinct comedic style. In the early 1980s, he made his film debut in "Beverly Hills Cop" and made a short appearance on "Saturday Night Live" during its 11th season, setting the stage for his rise in the comedy scene. He even had the opportunity to host an episode of the show in 1995.

Wayans hit his stride in 1990 when he co-created and starred in the revolutionary sketch comedy show "In Living Color," with his brother Keenen Ivory Wayans. The show, with a mainly Black cast, was notable for its daring social commentary, satire, and unfiltered humor. The series even gave Wayans four Emmy award nominations. Besides, it launched the careers of several future stars, including Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx. After "In Living Color," Wayans continued his successful streak in both film and television.

In 2001, he starred in and co-created the sitcom "My Wife and Kids," where he portrayed Michael Kyle, a loving but strict father with a unique parenting style. His outstanding performance in the series earned him the 2002 People's Choice Award for Favorite Male Performer in a New Television Series. He then moved on to star as Roger Murtaugh in the TV series "Lethal Weapon" from 2016 to 2019. In the fall of 2024, Wayans made a television comeback co-starring with his son Damon Jr. in the CBS sitcom "Poppa's House," which he also co-created.

Wayans' talent extends beyond acting. He has made significant contributions as a writer and producer. Notably, he created and was the executive producer of the animated series "Waynehead" in 1996-97.
