Dan Mullen

One of the most creative offensive minds in college football and former National Coach of the Year, Dan Mullen was one of the most successful coaches in the Southeastern Conference for 13 seasons. He now serves as a college football studio and game analyst for ESPN and is also a college football contributor for SiriusXM.

From 2017-2020, Mullen led the Florida Gators to three straight New Year’s Six Bowl Games. He previously celebrated two BCS National Championships with the Gators as the offensive coordinator from 2005-2008. In 2017, Mullen returned to Gainesville after nine seasons as the head coach at Mississippi State. Upon his return, Mullen took over an unranked Florida football program and led the Gators to one of their largest turnarounds in school history with a 10-win season in 2018. Mullen was 34-49 in four seasons with the Gators, which included an SEC East title in 2020. Among his three-straight New Year’s Six appearances, the Gators won the 2018 Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl and the Capital One Orange Bowl in 2019.

In between his two runs at Florida, Mullen at age 36 became the youngest FBS coach in history when hired by Mississippi State. He led his team to unprecedented success in 2014 when the Bulldogs climbed to #1 in the college football polls for the first time in school history. Mullen went on to shatter more than 100 school records in his nine seasons with the Bulldogs and led the program to a school record eight consecutive bowl games.

Mullen was named SEC Coach of the Year in 2014 and also won the George Munger National Coach of the Year Award.

Earlier in his coaching career, he was an assistant at Wagner College and Columbia University, as well as at Syracuse University and the University of Notre Dame. Following South Bend, he was the quarterbacks coach under Urban Meyer at Bowling Green and Utah.

Throughout his career, Mullen has been an offensive innovator of the game and the spread offense and known commonly as The Quarterback Whisperer. Mullen has coached and developed iconic signal callers such as Dak Prescott, Alex Smith, and Tim Tebow, among others.

Mullen served on the AFCA Board of Trustees and the NCAA College Football Oversight Committee.

He and his family reside in Georgia.
