Daniel Durant

Daniel Durant is an actor who first gained recognition in the 2015 Broadway revival of "Spring Awakening." He continued to make his mark in film with a significant role in the Academy Award-winning film "CODA" in 2021. This performance, alongside his cast members, garnered them the Special Jury Award for Ensemble Cast at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival and the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at the 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Television has also been a platform for Durant's talents, with a recurring role in the ABC Family series "Switched at Birth" from 2013 to 2017. In 2022, he expanded his repertoire, participating in the reality TV competition season 31 of "Dancing with the Stars," where he secured a 5th-place finish. Durant also performed the National Anthem in American Sign Language at Super Bowl LVIII.

His performances in "Flowers for Algernon" by Deaf West and "The Black Drum" were critically acclaimed for their appeal to deaf and hearing audiences. These roles, along with his recognition from the Theatre World Award and the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, underscore Durant's contributions to both theater and film.

Durant's contribution to the arts and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Communities also saw him being honored as the 2014 Deaf Awareness Month Honoree by the City of Los Angeles. He is an active supporter of the Deaf community and produces ASL videos on YouTube, participates in the Deaf Gamers Network, and conducts acting workshops for Deaf students. Furthermore, Durant serves as an acting teacher and coach at Deaf film camps and engages in national speaking engagements for colleges and universities.
