Daniel Mulhern

Dan Mulhern is a nationally recognized expert in the fields of leadership and organizational culture. As a senior advisor and co-founder of LeadingX2, Mulhern is committed to enhancing leadership capabilities through the power of dyadic partnerships. Currently teaching at the Haas School of Business and Boalt Law School at the University of California, Berkeley, he employs his vast experience to shed light on cultural shifts within modern workplaces. Through his roles as a public speaker, writer, and leadership coach, he has influenced thousands to lead effectively and ethically.

Mulhern has authored several books including "Everyday Leadership: Getting Results in Business, Politics and Life" and "Be Real: Inspiring Stories for Leading at Home and Work." He has also co-authored "A Governor’s Story: The Fight for Jobs and America’s Future" with Jennifer Granholm, which explores leadership strategies during economic challenges. His ongoing work includes writing for his blog “Reading for Leading,” and hosting the radio show “Everyday Leadership: Making Work Work.”

Over his career, Mulhern has provided executive coaching and leadership training to a diverse range of organizations, including prominent corporations such as Ford, Google, and Facebook. His expertise extends to advising high-profile political figures and he has been instrumental in developing leadership programs for women ascending to roles such as governor, attorney general, and senator. His teaching accolades at UC Berkeley include the Golden Apple Award and the Earl Cheit Award for outstanding teaching, underscoring his impact in educational settings.

Before his tenure as Michigan’s First Gentleman, Mulhern founded the Mulhern Hastings Group and later established Dan Mulhern Inc. and Granholm Mulhern Associates, where he serves as President. His personal achievements include receiving the Phillip A. Hart award for his advocacy on women’s issues and the Dennis Archer Public Service Award from the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association for his community contributions.

Mulhern holds degrees from Yale University and Harvard Law School. Besides his professional endeavors, he enjoys running, playing guitar, and engaging in basketball games with his children.
