Dr. Jennifer Ashton Biography
Jennifer Ashton is the chief health and medical correspondent at ABC News and founder and CEO of Ajenda, her science-based newsletter. A Columbia DuPont and Emmy® Award-winning journalist, and a 2024 John Jay Award honoree, Dr. Ashton has reported on the biggest medical, health, and wellness issues across all ABC News platforms for the past 12 years. She is also co-host of “GMA3: What You Need to Know,” informing viewers about the day’s latest breaking health and medical news.
Before joining ABC News, she was the senior medical correspondent for CBS News, where she received the prestigious Columbia Alfred DuPont Award for Excellence in Journalism for her work. She was a co-host on the syndicated talk show “The Doctors” and a regular expert guest on “The Dr. Oz Show.”
Dr. Ashton is a board-certified Ob-Gyn and Obesity Medicine specialist. She graduated from Columbia College and earned her medical degree from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, where she received the Bartlestone Award in Pharmacology. She also holds a master’s degree in nutrition from Columbia University.
Dr. Ashton is the author of six books and has written a monthly feature column, “Ask Dr. Ashton,” for Cosmopolitan Magazine.
