Dr. Omékongo Dibinga

Dr. Omékongo Dibinga is the UPstander. His life’s mission is to inspire all across the globe to take a stand when they witness an injustice, no matter how small or large. A John Maxwell Team “Top 30 speaker," he is an international speaker, trilingual poet, TV talk show host, rapper, and Senior Professorial Lecturer of Inter-cultural Communication at American University, where he also serves as a faculty affiliate to the Antiracist Research & Policy Center. Dibinga has published and produced 7 books, 8-fusion music and motivational CDs, and one independent DVD. He also contributes to national and international media platforms including "Roland Martin Unfiltered" and i24News in Israel.

Dibinga's motivational book, "G.R.O.W. Towards Your Greatness! 10 Steps to Living Your Best Life," has received praise from motivational speakers such as Les Brown and Willie Jolley. He has also authored “The UPstander’s Guide to an Outstanding Life,” a life balance book for students, and his upcoming book, "Lies about Black People: How to Combat Racist Stereotypes and Why It Matters," is set for publication in 2023. His work and influence extend to his music and writings appearing alongside notable figures such as Sheryl Crow, Angelina Jolie, and Yassine Bey, formerly known as Mos Def.

Dibinga has spoken before the United Nations and collaborates with the State Department to conduct leadership trainings overseas. He has also partnered with organizations like the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Teaching Diverse Students Initiative to promote culturally relevant instruction. As an advocate for social justice, he inspires audiences worldwide to become UPstanders, focusing on antiracism, diversity, and empowerment through his engaging keynotes, which often incorporate music and spoken word poetry. His program S.E.E.D.S. (Students Engaged on Every Day Success) supports students in overcoming educational and social obstacles, especially during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic.
