Efraim Halevy

Efraim Halevy was born in the U.K in the year 1934 . He is currently Head of the Shasha Center for Strategic Studies at the Federmann School of Public Policy and Government at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He serves as a consultant to Israeli Government ministries and agencies on strategic issues. He was recently re- elected unopposed for a second term as chairman of the Israel Intelligence Heritage and Commemoration Center (IICC.) He has also been elected chairman of the Zalman Shazar Center for Jewish History.

He served as National Security Advisor to Prime Minister Sharon ( 2002-2003 ) Head of the Mossad ( 1998-2002 ) Israel Ambassador to the European Union ( 1996-19998 ) Deputy Head of the Mossad (1990-1995) Senior Command Echelon of the Mossad (1967- 1990.) All in all he served in the Mossad for close to forty years. President of the National Union of Israeli Students (1955-1957.)

He served as a secret envoy of five Israeli Prime Ministers (Shamir, Rabin, Netanyahu, Barak and Sharon) and was singled out in public by Prime Minister Rabin for his role in forging the Jordan- Israel Peace Treaty.

He was awarded the President Herzog Prize in 2005 for a unique contribution to the security and diplomatic concerns of Israel. Halevy was awarded the Order of Istiqlal (Independence) first class ( out of seven ) by King Abdullah the Second of Jordan for his contribution to the relations between Jordan and Israel.

Halevy was awarded the Director�s Award by the Director of Central Intelligence of the United States of America in the year 2002 � in recognition of his unwavering commitment and dedication to the relationship between Israel and the United States of America.� The Award was created by President George Washington.

He published a book �Man in The Shadows- Inside the Middle East Crisis with a Man who led the Mossad � ( 2006.) It has appeared in eight other languages, Hebrew, French, Spanish, Arabic, Romanian, Hungarian, Turkish, and Japanese. A Chinese edition is due to appear shortly.

Efraim Halevy has written articles for the New Republic, Time Magazine, The Economist and a number of other European newspapers and is a regular contributor to Yedioth Acharonot and the Jerusalem Post in Israel. He often appears in interviews on CNN, Aljazeera, the BBC and Israel Television chains.
