Elias Aboujaoude, MD, MA

Dr. Aboujaoude is a psychiatry professor, author and educator at Stanford University, where he is director of the OCD clinic and chief of the Anxiety Disorders Section. He has also held positions at UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco, and an Honorary Professorship at the University of York in the United Kingdom. His research has focused on OCD, behavioral addictions and issues at the intersection of psychology and technology, including gaming “addiction”, online personality changes, cyberbullying, end-of-privacy concerns, online education, effects on democracy, and the use of technology to increase access to treatment through video therapy and virtual reality platforms. Besides his peer-reviewed scientific papers on these topics, he has published scholarly books with Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press and general audience books, including "Virtually You: The Dangerous Powers of the e-Personality" (New York Times Editors' Choice).

Dr. Aboujaoude's work has generated broad attention, including by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, PBS, BBC, CNN, NBC, ABC, The Harvard Business Review, Congressional Quarterly, and The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Dr. Aboujaoude has lectured extensively on these topics, both nationally and internationally, and to varied groups that include large student bodies (e.g., convocation address at the University of Miami), public health and national security officials (e.g., US Department of Defense), parents, and fellow educators and researchers.
