Ernest Dickerson

Ernest Dickerson is an acclaimed cinematographer, director, and producer known for his influential work in film and television. A graduate of New York University Tisch School of the Arts, Dickerson started his career as a cinematographer with music videos for Bruce Springsteen, Anita Baker and Miles Davis. His first professional film as a director of photography was "Brother from Another Planet."

Dickerson began his career as a cinematographer with Spike Lee, starting with the student film "Joe's Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads" and forging a long collaborative partnership. He contributed his distinctive visual style and innovative techniques to iconic films such as "She’s Gotta Have It," "School Daze," "Do the Right Thing," "Mo' Better Blues," "Jungle Fever," and "Malcolm X," earning recognition as a pioneering figure in independent cinema.

Dickerson has worked on a wide range of projects, making his feature film directorial debut with "Juice," a film that he also co-wrote. He has since directed several other films, including "Bulletproof," "Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight," and "The Green Mile." He has also directed episodes of popular series like "The Walking Dead," "The Wire," "Dexter" and "House of Cards."

In addition to his work behind the camera, Dickerson is an educator, sharing his expertise and experiences with the next generation of filmmakers. His contributions to cinema have earned him numerous accolades, and he continues to be a significant influence in the industry, celebrated for his artistic vision and commitment to storytelling.
